Terms of Service

Clear service rules for face-to-face English lessons, families, and learners at MET英会話教室 in Fuji City.

Effective / Last updated: September 6, 2026

HOW THESE TERMS WORK

Clear expectations before lessons begin.

These Terms of Service govern face-to-face English lessons, trial lessons, classroom activities, school events, and related services provided by Fledge Japan Co., Ltd. under MET英会話教室 (MET Eikaiwa Classroom).

Course-specific enrollment documents, fee schedules, campaign conditions, attendance or make-up rules, photo/video consent forms, and legally required consumer documents may apply together with these Terms. Where a valid service-specific document contains a more specific rule, that rule applies to the relevant service. Mandatory Japanese law always takes priority.

Important principles

  • Transparent fees: mandatory tuition, enrollment charges, materials, and other required costs are disclosed before the applicable contract is finalized.
  • Parent/guardian authority: enrollment and material decisions for minors are handled by an authorized parent or guardian.
  • Service-specific attendance rules: cancellation, absence, rescheduling, and make-up conditions depend on the enrolled course and the rules disclosed at enrollment.
  • Safety and respect: learners, families, visitors, and staff are expected to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • No guaranteed outcome: MET provides instruction and support but cannot guarantee a particular test score, grade, fluency level, school result, or learning timeline.
  • Statutory consumer rights remain effective: nothing in these Terms waives rights that cannot lawfully be waived.

SECTION 01

Operator and Acceptance of Terms

These Terms apply to services provided by Fledge Japan Co., Ltd. through MET英会話教室. By applying for, enrolling in, purchasing, or using a MET英会話教室 service, the customer agrees to these Terms and to any applicable service-specific documents disclosed before or at the time of contracting.

Submitting a general inquiry or trial-lesson request alone does not create an enrollment contract. A contract begins only when MET accepts the application or otherwise confirms enrollment or the applicable paid service.

SECTION 02

Services Covered

These Terms cover face-to-face English lessons, private and small-group classes, trial lessons, level checks, educational consultations, classroom learning activities, English Through Theater Arts activities, presentations or performances, school events, and related educational support provided by MET英会話教室.

Where MET offers a separate online service, childcare service, café event, or another distinct service, the terms applicable to that service may govern instead.

SECTION 03

Minors, Parents, and Guardians

Adult learners may contract for their own services. For a learner who is a minor, enrollment, payment obligations, required permissions, and material service decisions must be handled by a parent, guardian, or other person legally authorized to act for the learner.

The person enrolling a minor represents that they have authority to provide necessary information and make applicable decisions. MET may request reasonable confirmation of authority when necessary.

SECTION 04

Inquiries, Trial Lessons, and Level Checks

Trial lessons, consultations, and level checks are subject to available schedules, teacher availability, age or level suitability, and any conditions disclosed at booking.

A trial lesson helps the learner and MET assess fit and learning needs; it does not guarantee a particular teacher, time slot, class placement, course, or future availability. If a trial lesson is paid, the price will be disclosed before booking.

SECTION 05

Applications and Enrollment

Enrollment is subject to available capacity, teacher schedules, class balance, age or level suitability, required information, payment arrangements, and MET’s reasonable ability to provide the requested service.

MET may decline or defer an application where lawful and reasonably necessary, including where the requested class is full, required information is missing, the requested service falls outside MET’s scope, or an appropriate and safe learning arrangement cannot reasonably be provided.

SECTION 06

Tuition, Fees, Materials, Taxes, and Payment

Applicable tuition, enrollment charges, material or textbook costs, event fees, private-lesson charges, payment frequency, due dates, taxes, and other mandatory charges are disclosed through the current fee schedule, enrollment documents, invoice, campaign terms, or other pre-contract information.

Customers are responsible for paying disclosed amounts by the stated due date using an approved payment method. MET will not impose undisclosed mandatory charges after a contract is formed. Optional purchases or add-on services require separate agreement.

If payment becomes overdue, MET may contact the customer and may reasonably suspend non-essential future services after appropriate notice, subject to the applicable agreement and mandatory law.

SECTION 07

Specified Continuous Services and Statutory Consumer Rights

Certain language-school contracts may fall within Japan’s rules for Specified Continuous Services (特定継続的役務提供) under the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions when the statutory requirements are met. For language instruction, the current statutory thresholds generally include a service period exceeding two months and a total contractual amount exceeding ¥50,000.

Where those rules apply, MET will provide the documents and statutory information required by law. The customer’s statutory cooling-off and mid-term cancellation rights remain fully effective regardless of these general Terms.

Under the current statutory framework, a qualifying customer generally has an eight-day cooling-off period after receiving a legally compliant contract document. After that period, statutory mid-term cancellation rights may still apply. For qualifying language-school contracts, the statutory cap on amounts claimable upon mid-term cancellation is generally up to ¥15,000 before service begins; after service begins, it is the value of services already provided plus the lower of ¥50,000 or 20% of the remaining contract balance.

If the statutory conditions are not met, the cancellation and refund rules disclosed for the applicable course still apply, subject to all other mandatory consumer-protection laws. If the legal classification of a particular course differs because of its purpose or structure, the applicable statutory rules for that service take priority.

SECTION 08

Schedules, Teachers, Classes, and Program Changes

MET makes reasonable efforts to provide lessons as scheduled. Teachers, classroom assignments, lesson content, group composition, activity format, or schedules may change where reasonably necessary for staffing, educational quality, safety, facility operations, or other legitimate reasons.

Enrollment does not guarantee the same teacher indefinitely. If a teacher is unavailable, MET may arrange a substitute, reschedule the lesson, or apply another remedy stated in the applicable course policy.

SECTION 09

Attendance, Lateness, Absence, and No-Shows

Learners should arrive on time and follow the attendance procedure applicable to their course. A learner who arrives late may receive only the remaining scheduled lesson time where extending the lesson would disrupt another lesson or school operations.

Absence, cancellation, and no-show consequences are governed by the course or enrollment policy disclosed at enrollment. Parents or guardians should promptly notify MET when a minor learner will be absent.

SECTION 10

Rescheduling and Make-Up Lessons

Make-up lessons and rescheduling are not automatic unless they are included in the applicable course or enrollment policy. Eligibility may depend on the required notice period, teacher availability, class capacity, the reason for the cancellation, and the plan purchased.

Where MET cancels a paid lesson for a reason within its control, MET will provide the remedy stated in the applicable policy, which may include a replacement lesson, rescheduling, credit, or refund where legally appropriate.

SECTION 11

School Closures, Emergencies, and Events Beyond Reasonable Control

Lessons may be affected by severe weather, earthquakes, disasters, public-health events, utility failures, building emergencies, government instructions, transportation disruption, or other circumstances beyond MET’s reasonable control.

MET will take reasonable steps to communicate significant interruptions and determine an appropriate response. Depending on the circumstances and course, this may include closure, rescheduling, an alternative lesson arrangement, credit, refund, or another lawful remedy.

SECTION 12

Educational Approach and Learning Outcomes

MET uses learner-centered English instruction and may adjust content according to the learner’s age, level, pace, personality, interests, goals, attendance, and progress. Lesson methods, materials, activities, and sequence may be modified when reasonably necessary for effective instruction.

MET may teach listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, conversation, storytelling, role-play, presentation, projects, and other practical communication skills.

Progress varies among learners. MET does not guarantee a particular examination score, certification, school grade, level, fluency timeline, admission result, employment result, or other specific outcome.

SECTION 13

English Through Theater Arts and Production Activities

Where included in a learner’s course or school activity, MET may use storytelling, drama games, role-play, improvisation, script writing, character work, speech, presentation, stage movement, rehearsals, simple props or costumes, and small performances or theater productions as educational tools.

Participation requirements may be adjusted according to age, level, confidence, class needs, and the nature of the activity. Public performances, off-site activities, recordings, or activities requiring additional fees or special permissions will be communicated separately where applicable.

SECTION 14

Classroom Conduct, Safety, and Respectful Participation

Learners and visitors must follow reasonable safety instructions, respect other learners and staff, use facilities and materials appropriately, and avoid conduct that substantially disrupts learning or creates a safety risk.

MET may use proportionate responses such as discussion, parent/guardian communication, behavior support, temporary removal from an activity, schedule or class adjustments, suspension, or termination when reasonably necessary and lawful. For children, responses will be developmentally appropriate and focused on safety and learning.

SECTION 15

Parent and Guardian Responsibilities

Parents and guardians are responsible for providing accurate and current contact details, relevant information reasonably necessary for the learner’s safe participation, and any permissions or documents required for the enrolled service.

Parents and guardians should inform MET of changes that may materially affect scheduling, emergency communication, safe participation, or the learner’s educational support. For young children, MET may require an adult to remain nearby or assist when appropriate for the lesson format.

SECTION 16

Facilities, Personal Belongings, and Property

Learners and visitors should use classroom furniture, books, equipment, toys, props, and other property carefully and for their intended purpose. Personal belongings should be kept secure and should not obstruct learning or safety.

MET is not responsible for ordinary loss of or damage to personal property except where responsibility arises under applicable law. Deliberate or reckless damage may be addressed with the learner or responsible adult, subject to applicable law.

SECTION 17

Lesson Materials and Intellectual Property

MET lesson plans, worksheets, original teaching resources, scripts, activity designs, videos, recordings, website content, branding, and other original materials are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws unless otherwise stated.

Materials supplied to a learner may be used for that learner’s personal education. Customers may not sell, publicly distribute, reproduce at scale, upload, publish, or commercially reuse protected MET materials without permission.

Third-party textbooks, books, applications, and licensed materials remain subject to the rights and terms of their respective owners.

SECTION 18

Photographs, Video, Audio, and Publicity

Agreement to these Terms does not by itself authorize MET to use a learner’s image, voice, name, work, comments, or performance for public advertising or promotional purposes.

Where separate consent is required for website, social-media, brochure, promotional video, or similar public use, MET will obtain the appropriate consent from the learner or, for a minor, the parent or guardian.

Customers must not publicly post recordings or identifiable images of other learners, children, families, or staff obtained during MET activities without appropriate permission.

SECTION 19

Privacy and Personal Information

Personal information is handled in accordance with the MET Group Privacy Policy and applicable Japanese law. Customers should review the Privacy Policy before submitting personal information.

MET may process information reasonably necessary for inquiries, trial lessons, enrollment, attendance, learning records, parent or learner communication, payments, safety, and school administration.

SECTION 20

Third-Party Materials and External Services

MET may use third-party textbooks, educational platforms, payment services, communication tools, website systems, cloud services, or other providers in connection with school operations.

Third-party products or services may have their own terms and privacy rules. MET will use providers reasonably and in accordance with applicable obligations but cannot control independent systems or services outside its reasonable control.

SECTION 21

Withdrawal, Leave, Cancellation, and Refunds

Withdrawal, cancellation, refund, and leave-of-absence rules may vary by course, plan, campaign, or contract and will be disclosed in the applicable enrollment agreement or fee policy. Customers must follow the stated notice procedure.

Where a contract is covered by mandatory cooling-off, mid-term cancellation, refund, or other statutory rules, those statutory rights apply regardless of any general policy wording.

Refunds, when due, may require reasonable processing time and may be returned through the original payment method or another lawful agreed method.

SECTION 22

Suspension or Termination by MET

MET may suspend or terminate a service where reasonably necessary and lawful, including for serious or repeated non-payment, violence or threats, harassment, deliberate property damage, dangerous conduct, fraud, material misuse of services, or repeated serious breach of agreed school rules.

Where appropriate, MET will give reasonable notice and an opportunity to address the issue before termination. Immediate action may be taken when reasonably necessary to protect learners, families, staff, property, or safe school operations.

Any refund or remaining payment consequence will be determined under the applicable contract and mandatory law.

SECTION 23

Responsibility and Liability

MET is responsible for performing its contractual and legal obligations with reasonable care. Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts liability where exclusion or restriction is prohibited by Japanese law.

To the extent permitted by law, MET is not responsible for loss caused solely by materially inaccurate information supplied by the customer, unauthorized acts by the customer, or events beyond MET’s reasonable control.

Any limitation or allocation of responsibility must be interpreted consistently with mandatory consumer-protection law, including rules that invalidate unfair contract clauses or unlawful exclusions of business-operator responsibility.

SECTION 24

Changes to Services, Fees, and These Terms

MET may update these Terms or related school policies when reasonably necessary because of legal changes, educational or operational needs, safety requirements, technology, staffing, or administrative changes.

Material changes affecting an existing customer’s contracted price or core contractual rights will not be applied arbitrarily. MET will provide appropriate notice and obtain agreement where required by the applicable contract or law.

The current version of these Terms will be published with its effective or last-updated date.

SECTION 25

Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms and MET英会話教室 service contracts are governed by the laws of Japan, except where mandatory rules require otherwise.

If a concern arises, customers are encouraged to contact MET first so the matter can be reviewed. Nothing in these Terms prevents a consumer from using lawful consumer-affairs consultation, administrative procedures, mediation, court proceedings, or another dispute-resolution process.

Any court jurisdiction will be determined in accordance with applicable Japanese law and any legally valid agreement.
